What does an Orthodontist do?
Orthodontists are trained to detect, prevent, and treat misalignment of the jaw and teeth. An overbite, underbite, overcrowding, or deviations from the "normal" face shape can be detrimental to a young child's overall health.

Orthodontists can predict when issues will develop even before all permanent teeth have been established.
Why is it important to seek treatment as early as 6 years old?
Primary teeth are supposed to fall out in a specific order. By age 5, all primary incisors should be lost and four of the permanent molars should start to erupt. If by age 6, at least four of the permanent incisors and molars have not fully developed, that can be an indicator of future crowding, missing teeth, or even extra teeth.
